THE ASSOCIATION OF
BRITISH NAÍVE ARTISTS Enter the Exciting World of Naïve Art
The ABNA is a self-supporting organization of British Naïve artists from all walks of life, who through their own efforts and contacts, seek to bring Naïve Art to greater recognition.

To apply for membership please first study the following three quotes about the definitions of Naive Art, and if you feel that your work qualifies please then download the PDF form and post it to Judy Joel, Noah's Ark, Abbey Place, Mousehole, Cornwall, TR19 6PQ

"Naive Art, is recognised in paintings that tell a story, are illustrated in charming childlike ways and often out of proportion or scale. Even though the Naive Artist is most often untrained and self-aught, detailed information, defined lines and a sense of balance and order are often found. Naive paintings tend to be colourful, positive, charming and optimistic in their outlook celebrating life in all its forms." (Daphne Stephenson)

"The Naive Artist, treats us to a uniquely literal, yet extremely personal and coherent vision of what the world was, or is, or should be.
It offers us in painstaking detail, a timeless and optimistic depiction of an ancient story or Biblical tale, an ordinary occurrence or current event,
a special ceremony or daily activity. The Naive painting bustles with colour and excitement, brims with wry humour and candor, bubbles with unbridled empathy and love. They are in search for the harmonious relationship between man and nature, resulting in works that enjoy great favour among art critics and public alike". (Dan Chill)

"Self-taught or un-trained does not guarantee that one is a naive painter. The paintings of a true naturally naive painter should be well designed and balanced, with a combination of colour, narrative and above all charm, that sets their work above the work of other genres of painting or craft." (Judy Joel)
