After extensive traveling, work experience and completing a BA (hons) in Film and Photography at Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland in the year 1999; the British artist ‘Joel' traveled to an island engulfed by nature in Southern Thailand and began life as an oil painter.
Since then he has had over 35 exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia and America. The works of Joel are now collected all over the world.
In 2001 while living at Lewenhagen with artist Mary Von Stockhausen near Goettingen, he became the co-founder of the first German stuckist art movement. ( www.stuckism.com ) Joel also spent time living and working with various other up and coming famous artists in Munich and Berlin. It was during this period that he started writing ‘The Great Work'; written in his own invented pictographic alphabet.

2002 saw his return to Asia, having missed her warmth for too long. Since then he has been living and working as an artist in Taipei City; exhibiting his latest works at a number of bars, restaurants and cafes. (Citizen Cain, Chocolate and Love, Bliss, Saloon, J's Place, Bongos, FNAC, The Froggy's Bird and Organo's,) among many other venues and private shows.
In 2005, at the World Trade Center's Taiwan International Book Exhibition, Joel launched the publication of his first book ‘Poet Painter.' (A love story about the birth of an artist, featuring photography, drawings, paintings and poetry by the artist.) He spent most of that year promoting the book, signing copies up and down the island.

2007 was the year ‘Beat Studio Gallery' was co-founded with a fellow artist. "It's our home, our studio and gallery and our gift to help launch the creative paths of other like minded serious artists." Major art shows and happenings have taken place there since its conception. All of them well talked and written about creative, social successes. Joel has devoted as much of his time as possible toward self promotion and is now the most popular selling western artist in Taiwan. Joel would like to open his own art gallery/studio/café/clothing and merchandising company named JOELJOEL in a hot climate somewhere. In the meantime he is searching for representation by a gallery in Europe or America.
